Mystery Can II: Jay's Journal |
DAY THREE: Quail Eggs
Pre-Consumption: For dinner I got take-out from Papi's, which is my special go-to place when Patti is out of town. I ordered the fish special: fried tilapia, rice, beans, salad, Cuban bread, and plantains. I have a good feeling about Lucky Can #3. Opening Ceremony: Hm. I can only see liquid (cactus juice?), but it doesn't look very threatening. -- It's fucking quail eggs, just like I gave to her. She must have gone to a ridiculously expired Oriental market, too. I accidentally dropped a quail egg on the floor. It's probably a bad sign that my dog won't eat it, seeing as how she eats dirt, bugs, and used tissues. Bye bye, comfort food. Post-Consumption: I'll save you the horror of listening to the audio file, but I just threw up from eating half of one egg. Seriously. New strategy. The can included eighteen eggs. Since the rules state that must I must consume at least half of the can, nine eggs will be swallowed. I'm going to channel Kobayashi and bite each egg in half and then swallow with water. Ok, go... One egg. Epilogue: I consumed nine eggs, although is it really consumption when it comes back up? Let's just say that nine eggs went on a vacation to my stomach. I don't know what my aversion to them is, but that was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to eat. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

DAY FOUR: Yucca
Pre-Consumption: I'm making shrimp pasta with pesto sauce for dinner. It's a risky dish to make, because I can think of a lot of canned foods that could throw off the balance. Like quail eggs. Lucky Can #3 was a liar, so that's why I'm going to pick Luckier Can #4. It expires in a few weeks. That can't be a good sign. Opening Ceremony: I think this is yucca, a food I actually like. For the uninformed, yucca is a root vegetable that tastes similar to a potato. It looks like I'll be having some starch to go with my starch. Mystery Can, I knew you were lucky! High five in my mouth! Post-Consumption: I would prefer to eat fresh yucca (boiled for an hour of course) than canned yucca, but shoot, it was a very satisfying dinner. It's nice to have a moment of enjoyment during this game. My only criticism is that the meal looked like I dropped it in a bucket of sepia. It was a big color palette of neutrality. Epilogue: Did you know that yucca is an anagram for caucy, a word that I just made up? | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
