I've always wished Jay could somehow get paid for doing this site. Don't get me wrong, one of the most charming aspects of it is that he does it all for free. But I would love to see that parlayed into something financially rewarding.
A couple years ago I freelanced for a company that created online content for social networking sites. I handed one of the head writers Jay's book and suggested they license some of his ideas in widget form. For example: a MySpace graphic that says 'Please enjoy this free and nonpoisonus cake would be great.
I tried bringing both parties together but the negotiations stopped when this writer said, "Technically this guy doesn't copyright any of his stuff. At the bottom it says 'The Plug is copyright 2003 and I typed the rest of this sentence witg ny eyes ckised'. He makes a joke of it. If we wanted we could just use the ideas without paying him."
Mother. Fucker. I snatched back the book and never told Jay why nothing came of the prospect, but that's why. It's because they were assholes. Fortunately the company went down the tubes after that.
